Auburn (2023)

Auburn was written as a way to tap into musical interests that I have, but have never had a chance to express in my concert music. This piece ended up being a deep dive into high energy, thrashing, groove music that takes inspiration from Neo-Soul, Prog Rock, and Djent. My first exposure to these types of music started during high school, not through seeing live performances but through albums that I would discover on the internet. As such, I spent most of my time listening to these high energy songs while driving to and from school each day, where I would listen to the songs on repeat. The title Auburn comes a street close to my house that I would always end up on at the end of the day, which I found fitting for this piece.
