River of Glass (2021)

I started this piece as a fun distraction from a different project I was working on, as I was inspired by a video I saw of Hailey Niswanger on Instagram. She had multitracked a sax quartet with the bari replaced by a bass clarinet, and it had such a warm timbre that I had never considered before. The title River of Glass is meant to evoke the same emotional response that the music conveys, but has no inherent narrative relationship to the piece. Overall, the composition is comprised of a single idea which gradually wanders through different tonal centers before coming to rest.
